Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks suffered a stunning loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Week 2.

The sixth-ranked Oregon Ducks suffered a stunning 39-31 loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Week 2 of the 2026 season.

"The score was closer than it really was, because it really wasn’t close. We got our a— kicked," head coach Dan Lanning said.

The offense struggled in the first half and didn't do enough in the second half to close the gap. Star quarterback Dante Moore struggled, as he completed 14 of 29 passes for 191 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Moore was inefficient, which is rare for a quarterback who was among the leaders in completion percentage in the 2025 season.

"We didn't have a lot of rhythm on offense; defensively, we gave up way too many explosives, some poor eye discipline, not winning at the point of attack," Lanning added. "Our guys are much more capable of that, so all that starts with me. I didn't prepare our guys well enough."

The Ducks struggled mightily on defense, other than a pick-six by Devon Jackson and an interception by Matayo Uiagalelei. Oregon has a talented defensive line, but were unable to record a sack and had just one tackle for loss.

Oregon narrowly escaped with a win in Week 1 over the Boise State Broncos, but they weren't able to pull off a late comeback in back-to-back games.

The Ducks entered the season as one of the best teams in college football, but are now poised to fall in the rankings.

"This is a game that we need to show improvement; we didn't show improvement, so we have to see that now moving forward with our team," Lanning said.

Oregon struggled in the first half against Boise State but rallied to a win, with Moore heating up and proving he is one of the best quarterbacks in college football. Moore and the Ducks didn't have the heroics in Week 2, as they looked worse on the field, which is something Lanning and the coaching staff will need to figure out.

"We have to evaluate everything we're doing," Lanning stated. "On the same note a lot of what we're doing is the same thing that's had success the last few years. So it's not like you throw stuff in the trash. Figure out where are the holes, patch the holes, fix them and attack them."
