Does Oregon Have Enough to Make a Miracle Big Ten Tournament Run? cover image

The Oregon Ducks snapped a major losing streak on Saturday but do they have enough to make a tournament run into The Dance in March?

On Saturday in Eugene, the Oregon Ducks snapped a 10-game losing streak on Saturday against the Penn State Nittany Lions with a nice and convincing 83-72 victory.

The Ducks got off to a solid start and carried the momentum all the way through until the clock hit zero. It was a nice treat as they limped towards the finish line for what otherwise has been a year to forget.

It was Oregon's first win since Jan 2, and it improved their record to 9-16 on the year and just 2-12 in the Big Ten.

Unfortunately, the tale of the 2026 season has been written by injuries. They are a part of the game, but for Oregon this year, they have been the game. In late December, they lost starting guard Jackson Shelstad to a season-ending injury while having to survive spurts without several other key players.

However, with just six games remaining, they still have a chance to improve their positioning a little bit to make a miraculous tournament run a little bit more realistic.

As it stands right now, the Ducks sit as the 16th seed heading into the Big Ten Tournament. However,  as the bracket goes, if they can crack into the 14 seed or better, they will be rewarded with a first-round bye.

Since the Big Ten is now 18 teams, the bracket has to be a little creative. Also, there is no point in having a conference tournament bracket require the top seeds to win three or four games, so seeds 1-4 go all the way quarterfinals on a bye.

Seeds 5-8 start just one round before them, and seeds 9-14 technically get a first-round bye as the tournament kicks off with seeds 16 and 17 facing off and seeds 15 and 18. The format is pretty cool, and it will be a great weekend for Big Ten Basketball in Chicago.

Now, for the Ducks, getting into that 9-14 range just to give them one less game to win. If they find themselves in a spot where they have to win six games, it is going to be an insurmountable challenge.

Five wins isn't all that much easier, but they need to take what they can get.

Still left on the schedule for the Ducks are a couple of winnable basketball games. They host 11-14 Minnesota before games against USC and Wisconsin, which will both likely be losses.

They then finish with Northwestern, Illinois, and then Washington, a stretch that they could realistically go 2-1 over.

If they can get to five conference victories, that should slot them as high as 12, but likely somewhere between 12-14.

That has to be the goal for the Ducks, and then they need a little bit of magic to run through the Big Ten tournament to get to the Big Dance.

It's a long road, but they just take it one game at a time.
