Former Oregon Ducks star quarterback Bo Nix is facing serious backlash for his performance in Week 1.
Former Oregon Ducks star quarterback Bo Nix entered Monday night's game for the Denver Broncos with high expectations. After making it all the way to the AFC Championship Game last season, the Broncos were expected by many to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs.
What ended up happening was a horrible look for both Nix and Denver.
Mahomes and the Chiefs dominated the game from start to finish. When all was said and done, the Broncos ended up losing the game by a final score of 31-10.
Nix did not perform well during the season opener. He completed 17 of his 28 pass attempts for 131 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He ran three times for just two yards.
Shortly after the loss to Kansas City, notable sports analyst Colin Cowherd spoke out with harsh words about the former Oregon standout.
"I look at this thing right now and I'm telling you: Bo Nix is in trouble," Cowherd said. "He is getting in the way."
Granted, the Week 1 performance was a major disappointment. However, giving up on Nix and overreacting to the loss is unnecessary after just one game. Nix has plenty of time to right the ship and get Denver back on track.
Looking back at Nix's career with the Ducks, fans in Eugene know what he's capable of doing. In two seasons with Oregon, Nix put up massive numbers.
During the 2022 season, Nix completed 71.9 percent of his pass attempts for 3,593 yards, 29 touchdows, and seven interceptions. He also ran for 510 yards and 14 more touchdowns that season.
He followed up that campaign with an even bigger stat line in 2023. Nix threw for 4,508 yards, 45 touchdowns, and three interceptions, while also running for 234 yards and six scores.
Since being the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Nix has played in 34 games for the Broncos across two years. He has completed 64.8 percent of his passes for 7,706 yards, 54 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. Nix has also run for 786 yards and nine touchdowns.
Only time will tell what the future has in store for Nix. There are clear problems that need to be fixed after Week 1, but one loss won't define an entire season.
Next up for the former Oregon star and Denver will be a Week 2 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars at home. All Ducks fans will continue rooting for Nix to get back on track in a few days and start shutting down the outside noise from analysts like Cowherd.
