The University of Oregon is a top-notch school not just for its academics, but for its athletics as well. Their football team and track and field teams are consistently top-tier programs, and their baseball team just recently cracked the top-25, joining their softball team whose also 16th currently.
The only thing missing is their basketball team. This is not to say Oregon hasn't had some solid programs in the past. In 2016-2017, Oregon boasted one of the best basketball teams in the nation.
Led by players like Payton Pritchard, Dillon Brooks, and Jordan Bell, they took Oregon all the way to the final four before losing to the eventual champions, UNC.
Since then, it hasn't been all bad by any means, with Dana Altman leading the charge, but this season for Oregon basketball will certainly be one to forget. It was so bad, in fact, that they joined a select few institutions in just how highlighted the difference in success between most schools' top two sports.

It depends on the school when it comes to which sport is better of the two, but typically if one is good, the other isn't awful.
This year, that was unfortunately the case for the University of Oregon.
While their regularly dominant football program had an outstanding season, coming to within just a game of the National Championship, the basketball program looked abysmal. So abysmal in fact that they joined a short list of schools with an embarrassing comparison.
There were four schools in which the football team won more games than the basketball team. The University of Utah, the University of Texas San Antonio, the Air Force, and the University of Oregon.
It doesn't sound awful, but when you realize the football program plays a little under a half of the total games the basketball program plays, a discrepancy that large catches people's attention.
The football program finished the season with a fantastic 13-2 record, while the basketball team finished with a rough 12-20 record.
Hopefully, for the pride of Eugene, Oregon's basketball team is able to regroup this offseason, but together, have a solid recruiting season, and find their way back to Dana Altman's 20+ wins ways.
