The Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning are reportedly trying to flip a five-star recruit.
Since taking over as the head coach of the Oregon Ducks back in 2022, Dan Lanning has turned the program into a powerhouse. He has also become one of the best recruiting head coaches in college football.
With that being said, Lanning has put together another elite class in 2027. However, he isn't done with trying to continue adding to the class.
Currently, according to Rivals, Oregon has the No. 3 ranked recruiting class in the nation.
That class is headlined by five-star commits like EDGE Rashad Streets and wide receiver Xavier Sabb. The Ducks also have four-star commitments from wideout Dakota Guerrant, quarterback Will Mencl, cornerback Hayden Stepp, ATH Tae Walden Jr., linebacker Toa Satele, safety Semaj Stanford, defensive lineman Zane Rowe, running back CaDarius McMiller, cornerback Josiah Molden, defensive lineman Cam Pritchett, tackle Cameron Wagner, offensive lineman Gus Corsair, tight end Anthony Cartwright III, and linebacker Brandon Lockley Jr.
Even though the Ducks already have a stacked class, they are reportedly still trying to flip an elite five-star athlete. Lanning never stops trying to improve the Oregon roster.
According to a report from Tom Loy of 247 Sports, the Ducks are trying to flip USC Trojans five-star commit Honor Fa'alave-Johnson.
"Behind the scenes, we're told schools haven't completely given up. Oregon and Texas are two to keep an eye on," Loy reported.
Fa'alave-Johnson is currently ranked by Rivals as the No. 13 overall player in the nation for the 2027 recruiting class. He has also been ranked the No. 1 overall athlete in the class.
Looking into the future, Fa'alave-Johnson could either play wide receiver or safety. Oregon would have its pick of positions to play him. He could even turn into a two-way player if the Ducks chose to attempt that route.
Standing in at 6-foot-0 and 180 pounds, Fa'alave-Johnson has received a comparison to an intriguing NFL player. Rivals compared him to Darnell Savage, who played his college career at Maryland.
Only time will tell whether or not Oregon will be able to flip Fa'alave-Johnson from the Trojans. For now, this is a storyline worth keeping a close eye on as the Ducks and Lanning keep working to adding him to their already stacked 2027 class.
