The Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning are receiving some help on the recruiting trail by one of their top commits, Will Mencl.
As the Oregon Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning begin to prepare for a massive recruiting month, the prominent program has received some significant help in their efforts by one of the top commits in the upcoming recruiting cycle this summer.
When talking to reporters this weekend at the Elite 11 Finals, 2027 four-star quarterback and Oregon commit Will Mencl made it clear that he will be assisting Lanning and company in their efforts on the high school recruiting trail.
"We want Dakota Guerrant, we want Xavier Sabb, we want Blake Wong, we want Bode Sparrow," Mencl said. "In the 2028 class, we really want Braylon Clark, just to name a few. I feel really good about Xavier Sabb, Dakota. We're pushing."
Examining Oregon’s Top Targets
While Mencl and the Ducks will ramp up their recruiting efforts this summer, it will be the perfect opportunity to bolster their future outlook.
One name to keep an eye on throughout the summer is 2027 five-star wide receiver Dakota Guerrant, as Oregon is the leader in the clubhouse for the talented prospect. As the No. 1 recruit in the state of Michigan, Guerrant has caught the attention of multiple Power Four programs, including the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Michigan Wolverines, and the Texas A&M Aggies.
However, with the departure of former Buckeyes’ wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator Brian Hartline this offseason, there’s a chance that Oregon could ultimately steal the Midwest prospect from its fellow Big 10 Conference members.
In addition to Guerrant, 2027 four-star athletes Brode Sparrow and Xavier Sabb will also be high on the Ducks’ list of recruits, with both set to take official visits to the program in the month of June. Sparrow, despite the heavy push from Lanning in the coaching staff, has a crystal ball prediction to land with the Oklahoma Sooners, while Oregon remains one of four teams in the mix for Sabb.
Since both prospects will be in Eugene this summer, this will be an excellent opportunity for the Ducks to add two more playmakers to the program’s growing 2027 class.
