The Oregon Ducks have become one of the top schools in the country when it comes to recruiting, thanks much in part to the genius of head coach Dan Lanning.
Oregon's 2026 recruiting class — which has already bagged one five-star recruit and 13 four-stars — is ranked No. 2 in the nation by 247 Sports, and the Ducks are already trying to get a major head start on 2027.
In fact, Oregon could be on the verge of flipping five-star cornerback Donte Wright from Georgia. Wright visited Eugene over the weekend and made it pretty clear that the Ducks are a major threat.
“The environment is great, a lot of top 27’ recruits are out,” Wright said, via Steve Wiltfong of On 3. “They have been great to me and my mom and Coach Dan and I continue to build our relationship. I see what he is trying to do with this talent out here.”
Wright committed to Georgia last June but has still been taking visits. USC and UCLA are also viewed as top candidates to potentially sway the 6-foot-1 defensive back away from the Bulldogs, and with Wright being a native of California, the Trojans and Bruins could ultimately have an edge over Oregon.

Wright is the third-ranked cornerback and the 31st-ranked player nationally in the class of 2027, via 247 Sports' composite rankings. He is also the second-ranked player in the state of California.
And while Wright is set to be a true freshman once he hits the NCAA circuit in 2027, Lanning has shown no qualms about playing players with no collegiate experience right off the bat. Just ask fellow cornerback Brandon Finney Jr., who played a vital role for the Ducks in 2026.
Oregon has posted back-to-back 13-win campaigns, but both seasons ended in blowout losses in the College Football Playoff. The Ducks were routed by Ohio State in the Rose Bowl last year, and this season, they were hammered by Indiana in the Peach Bowl.
We'll see if Oregon can finally get over the hump next year.
