Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning revealed an update on quarterback Dante Moore and his concussion.
The Oregon Ducks had a real scare on Saturday night when starting quarterback Dante Moore left the game following a brutal hit.
Moore was taken to a local hospital, and it was determined that he had a concussion. Thankfully for Moore, the issue wasn't worse, and now he will be trying to recover from it over the next part of the process.
The Ducks were able to take down the USC Trojans in the game, but all thoughts were with Moore following his exit. The entire college football world came together with hopes that Moore would be all right after the hit.
While speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning provided an update on his quarterback. Lanning seems optimistic about Moore's recovery, but said that the team will have to save him from himself.
The Ducks won't rush Moore back on the field; instead, they will allow him ample time to heal from the concussion. Oregon will thoroughly test Moore throughout the next steps, seeing how he recovers from the serious hit.
With Moore wanting to play as soon as he can, the Ducks are going to have to protect him if he doesn't fully pass the needed tests. Moore is the ultimate competitor, but with an injury such as a concussion, it can be tricky.
Luckily for the Ducks, they don't play until October 10, when they host the UCLA Bruins. Oregon is on a bye week right now, which gives Moore some extra time to rest and heal up for him to possibly be cleared to go in the game.
If he can't give it a go, backup Dylan Raiola will take the reins for the Ducks. Raiola came into the game after Moore left, helping the team get the win over the Trojans.
The veteran signal-caller looked very good in the Oregon system, showing real comfort when entering the game. Overall, Raiola threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns, allowing the Ducks to overcome the injury to Moore.
The Ducks will hope for the best when it comes to Moore, but concussion recoveries can be fickle at times. If he isn't fully cleared to go by the deadline before the UCLA game, the team does have confidence in Raiola starting.
But this is a good sign for Moore, and thankfully there weren't any other issues following the hit on Saturday. Oregon will now move forward with a plan in place for Raiola to start, while hoping that Moore can get back once he's good to go.
