The Oregon Ducks have landed their successor for Dante Moore.

Head coach Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have landed a major addition, as five-star quarterback Will Mencl has committed to the program.

Mencl is the top-ranked quarterback in the 2027 class, per On3, and will likely be the Ducks' successor to Dante Moore.

Mencl committed to Oregon over the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Auburn Tigers.

The 6-foot-4 quarterback from Chandler, Arizona, had an incredible season in his junior year of high school in 2025, completing 70.3 percent of his passes for 3,815 yards, 33 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He added 741 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground.

Mencl's dual-threat ability makes him extremely valuable, and he should be a great potential replacement for Moore.

Moore opted to forego the NFL Draft and play one more season at Oregon. He thrived in the Ducks system in 2025, completing 71.8 percent of his passes for 3,565 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.

Moore led Oregon to the College Football Playoff, but they fell to the eventual National Champion, the Indiana Hoosiers, in the Peach Bowl.

While Moore is returning for another season, it was pivotal for Lanning and the Ducks to find their next quarterback to lead the charge, as he will be off to the NFL after the 2026 season.

Mencl was the top recruit to target, and Oregon did an incredible job landing him over Penn State and Auburn.

The Ducks have had some successful quarterbacks in the program of late with Bo Nix, Dillon Gabriel, and Moore. However, all three of those quarterbacks were recruited from the transfer portal, while Mencl is coming from high school.

Mencl will have the chance to be developed at Oregon into the program's next elite quarterback and help the team remain in College Football Playoff contention each season.

Lanning and the Ducks will now focus on returning to the College Football Playoff in 2026 to compete for a National Championship, but they should feel comfortable with their quarterback room, knowing they have a succession plan for Moore in place.
