One college football analyst sent the Oregon Ducks a strong message after barely beating Boise State in Week 1.
The Oregon Ducks got quite a scare in Week 1 of the new college football season, having to squeak out a win against Boise State at home.
Much like their last matchup with the Broncos, the Ducks couldn't separate themselves throughout the entire game. Boise State did a good job of punching back at Oregon throughout, keeping the game close until the end.
The Ducks were given a wakeup call in this contest, something that they weren't expecting to see this early in the year. But for Oregon, this could end up being one of the best things for them, showing the team that they aren't invincible.
Oregon entered the new season with arguably the deepest roster in college football, with many believing that this would be the year that they would win the National Championship. But after the close win against Boise State, new questions have arisen.
Analyst David Pollack weighed in on the game between the two sides, talking about everything on his podcast, "See Ball, Get Ball."
"If I'm Oregon, I'm never scheduling Boise again, ever" Pollack said. "We don't know why, but the Ducks definitely don't seem to have Boise's number. And it doesn't matter where it's played, they always play them really tough and actually Boise's 3-1 in the series, now 3-2."
Boise State is a formidable opponent, and they don't seem to be intimidated by the Ducks anytime they've played. But for Oregon, having games like this to open the year can make the team even stronger as the year goes on.
Wins like this also can help with resume purposes down the line, especially if Boise State were to perform well again this year. The Broncos made the College Football Playoff two years ago, so the close win early in the year made the Ducks look even stronger.
While the Broncos did expose the Ducks a little, especially on defense, this could be exactly what Oregon needed. The Ducks were able to withstand a strong performance from a lower-tiered team, showing resilience early in the season.
Had Oregon lost, this would have been an entirely different story. But the Ducks were able to hold on to get the win, starting the year 1-0, with a competitive Big Tens schedule coming their way.
Oregon doesn't have time to reflect on this close win, with a big matchup on the road against Oklahoma State coming their way this weekend.
