The Ducks are just six short weeks away from learning the fate of their top quarterback recruit, Joshua Boyd, after his season in a couple of weeks.
The Oregon Ducks' future at the quarterback position will be known in about six weeks as one of the top recruits in the country, Joshua Boyd announced his decision date to be at the end of November.
The Ducks cracked Boyd's top three teams on his list, the two others being the Kentucky Wildcats and the UCLA Bruins. There is obviously a common thread between Oregon and Kentucky, which is offensive coordinator Will Stein. As it is turning out, Stein may have been the mastermind behind Oregon's success, as he has his Wildcats rolling while the Ducks are reeling.
The UCLA one is fascinating, not only because the Ducks fell to the Bruins just this weekend, but also because UCLA is competing on both the field and on the recruiting trail.
It won't be long until Bob Chesney has UCLA as a force to be reckoned with.
For the Ducks, they feel like they really need to land a recruit like this to get some momentum back in the program. As it stands today, Boyd has taken his official visits to both Oregon and Kentucky while unofficially visiting UCLA twice.
Boyd is still a high school junior, so he has plenty of time left to continue growing and developing his game, but as it stands right now, he is a four-star recruit standing already at 6'3".
In his first two seasons as a high school quarterback, he has thrown for over 2,000 yards twice. In 2025, he took a step back in touchdowns, from 26 to 19, but a step up in yards through the air to 2,600 yards, up from 2,052.
He is also a dual-threat prospect and is not afraid to use his legs. Over his career, he has 898 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.
He has the potential to be a dynamic player at the next level; the only question is just where it is going to be.
The Ducks need to get a little bit of good energy into their program right now. It's been a year full of all bad things for Oregon. Bad performances, injuries, losses, and what feels like a lost season with one of the most expensive rosters in college football.
It will be a couple of weeks until they find out, so they have some time to right the ship. If things continue to go south for Oregon, it is going to be hard to land Boyd, but if they can turn it around, maybe he becomes the quarterback of their future.
