Oregon's Football Program Reveals Disappointing News As Their Postseason Hopes End

The Oregon Ducks revealed some really disappointing news on Monday as they prepare to just get through the remainder of their season.

In a year when the Oregon Ducks just had one disappointment after another, they added to it on Monday. The Ducks' head coach, Dan Lanning, revealed that his quarterback, Dante Moore, will not return for the remainder of the season.

The truth is that it's probably the right decision for his future. The hit that he took at USC was one of the dirtiest hits that you will ever see that left Moore on the field unconscious for a good amount of time.

He was absolutely progressing towards a return, but the Ducks could not sustain their season, and as they look at it now, there is no reason that Moore should return.

After losses to UCLA and Illinois, the Ducks have no chance of making the College Football Playoffs, even if they were to beat the Ohio State Buckeyes next week.

It would have been a completely different story if the Ducks had not fallen to Illinois last week, but that didn't happen. The reality is that the Ducks' offense without Dante Moore was a mess, and it never got going.

For Moore, this is quite the case study on why it is so risky to come back to school and forego the NFL Draft, for any reason. Last April, Moore was going to be a shoo-in top-5 pick in the NFL Draft.

It was never official, but it was rumored that he didn't want to play for the New York Jets, so he came back to Oregon. Well, his star offensive coordinator hit the road, and the Ducks never looked remotely like the same team.

His stock was trending in the wrong direction this year, and then he got the head injury that ended his year. Furthermore, the lasting impression of Moore's body of work was a bad performance against Oklahoma State and a solid half against USC. He certainly didn't blow anyone's mind with his resumé this year.

This now lends credence to the opportunity for him to come back for yet another season. I didn't even think that would be a possibility prior to this announcement today, but he has one more year of eligibility that he may use up.

The final takeaway from all of this is just how disappointing this season in Eugene continues to be. Bad losses, horrible performances, fired coaches, and now a quarterback who isn't going to return.

All of that in a year that the Ducks had expectations to win the National Championship.
