The NFL Combine is always a fun time as a football fan. Although it's not always an exact indicator of whether or not a young player will find success in the league, it is fun to see who pops in the drills.
Oregon had a couple of players dominating the combine headlines, including safety Dillon Thieneman and tight end Kenyon Sadiq. Both heavily improved their draft stock, but what Kenyon Sadiq was able to do turned quite a few heads.
The freakish tight end was already widely predicted to be the first selection at his position, but with what he was able to do over the weekend, good luck picking him if you have a pick outside the top-ten.
The league has seen an influx of some fantastic players at the tight end position. Guys like Sam LaPorta, Brock, Bowers, Tyler Warren, and Colston Loveland have come in and made an immediate impact in their rookie years. Sadiq looks to be the next in line and the comparisons he's drawing are frankly insane. .
© Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesWhat Kenyon Sadiq was able to do this weekend, truthfully, does not make sense coming from a tight end. Between his frame and his numbers, you can compare him to not only some of the most athletic players football has seen, but one of the greatest dunkers basketball has ever seen.
Let's start with his speed. Sadiq ran a blistering 4.39 forty-yard dash and hit a top speed of 23.2 MPH. His forty time matches that of elite NFL running back Jonathan Taylor, and his top speed is on par with speedster Jahmyr Gibbs.
Those numbers are incredible, but when you pair them with his frame, they become unbelievable. Sadiq measured in at 6'3, the same height as Julio Jones, and weighs a whopping 241 pounds, the same as former Oregon great LeGarrette Blount.
Speed and size are certainly helpful at the tight end position, but in order to be elite, you need to be able to win jump balls when space becomes sparse in the redzone. Sadiq has that covered as well.
His 113" broad jump matches that of former All-Pro Dez Bryant, which is insane, but who you can compare his vertical to is even more unbelievable. Sadiq recorded a 43.5" vertical. For reference, that's not only on par with NBA Hall of Famer Vince Carter, but it's 0.5" higher.
Whoever selects Kenyon Sadiq in this year's draft is not only getting likely the next great tight end in line, but one of the most athletically gifted players the league has ever seen.
