Halfway through week two, the Nittany Lions are major favorites against the Temple Owls.
It's an in-state matchup that, frankly, should be played way more frequently than it has been over the years. The Penn State Nittany Lions travel to the City of Brotherly Love to take on the Temple Owls inside Lincoln Financial Field.
The Nittany Lions hold a 40-4-1 record against the Owls, and this is the first time the two teams are clashing since a decade ago, in 2016. Penn State won that football game 34-27, and then the pause in the series began.
The last time that Temple bested the Nittany Lions was in 2015 when they knocked off Penn State 27-10 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
All of that is in the past. What is in the future is a game that is projected to be heavily favored towards the Nittany Lions. With three days left until kickoff, Penn State is a -23.5 favorite, with an over/under sitting at 49.5.
Both teams are coming off of impressive victories in week one. Temple got the best of Rhode Island last weekend by a final score of 38-14. It was a game that the Owls totally controlled at the line of scrimmage.
Temple rushed for 227 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. They were led by young sophomore Keveun Mason, who had 158 yards on 20 carries for two touchdowns.
Their passing attack left a lot to be desired as they finished the game with 142 passing yards on 9-of-16 through the air with two different quarterbacks taking snaps.
For Penn State, they did it all against Marshall. They looked like a very disciplined and well-coached team that executed at an incredibly high level.
Rocco Becht and the passing game were clicking on all cylinders, and the result was them discovering a brand new toy, Koby Howard, who is going to be one of the best wide receivers in the Big Ten.
On the ground, Penn State deployed a three-headed monster in the backfield that helped the Nittany Lions control the tempo of the game on the ground.
Over the last ten victories, Penn State is averaging a 20.6-point margin of victory, with a low of four points in 2011 and a high of 47 in 2006.
It has been a one sided matchup in this series since it began in 1931. It is likely to stay that way and the Nittany Lions have a really good chance to move to 2-0 on the season.
