Of course, being a starting quarterback in the NFL is something that Drew Allar of the Pittsburgh Steelers is now very hopeful for. It'll be interesting to see when and whether Allar eventually gets that chance, though his chances probably actually went up after this weekend.

I know that some won't agree with that because Aaron Rodgers signed with the Steelers, but I actually view that as a very good thing for Allar and his future in the NFL.

If there's one thing that Allar has to do over the next few years, it's develop at the level everybody knows he can with his skill set. There aren't many more guys in this last draft class who have the tools that Allar has, if any at all.

With Rodgers now in Pittsburgh, he has an opportunity to learn from one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, if not the greatest pure quarterback the game has ever seen.

“Rodgers’ return isn’t necessarily good news for Howard’s future in Pittsburgh, but third-round pick Drew Allar, on the other hand, has a lot to gain. Though Allar theoretically would’ve had a chance to compete for the starting job alongside Howard and Mason Rudolph had Rodgers not returned to the organization, playing as a rookie was never in the Penn State product’s best interest.

“The 22-year-old has a lot of the tools you cannot teach to quarterbacks, such as arm strength and size, which made him an enticing prospect despite his down 2025 campaign that featured a season-ending ankle injury. His poor mechanics and footwork were a major cause of concern in his profile as a prospect, however, and the Steelers have made it a point to coach all of the negative tendencies in his game out of him, as seen at rookie minicamp,” Jack Markowski wrote.

It's quite literally impossible to argue that Allar isn't in a good spot now that Rodgers is back in the organization.

Even if that means he isn't going to start over the next nine months, Allar can take a year off just developing under an all-time great and really have a chance to soak up what it means to be in the NFL on and off the field. This is the hardest league in the world for a reason, and with a guy who struggled in college at times, it's only going to be looked at as a positive if he can get up to speed as quickly as possible.
