Oftentimes in the NFL, players need to be in the perfect system. That doesn't mean they're always going to be given an opportunity to prove they can play at the highest level and allowed to struggle for an extended period, but being with certain coaches, organizations, and players can certainly have an impact on how guys play throughout their careers.

For former Penn State quarterback Drew Allar, that's something that he's pretty excited about, or at least should be.

Struggles during his time at Penn State have left some questions about what Allar will look like in the NFL, but there's a lot to like about him potentially succeeding with the Steelers. Not only does he have a legendary quarterback in Aaron Rodgers teaching him how to go about his business, but he also has an incredible head coach when it comes to working with quarterbacks in Mike McCarthy.

McCarthy, a great offensive mind, should get the best out of Allar if he's willing to learn, which he seems ready to do.

Recently, looking at players who were drafted into the best scenarios, CBS Sports named Allar as that guy.

“Drew Allar may have landed in the best possible place to maximize his abilities. In reality, the Steelers would love for Allar to spend most of 2026 learning, developing and adjusting to NFL speed. But let's assume circumstances force him onto the field. If that happens, he'll step into one of the most quarterback-friendly situations in the league for a rookie…

“The bigger story, though, remains Mike McCarthy. Few coaches have more experience developing quarterbacks with high-end traits. McCarthy has spent years working with passers who could create outside structure without descending into chaos. That's important because Allar's profile may be one of the most complicated in this class,” Ryan Wilson wrote.

It's very exciting to think about what McCarthy and Allar can do together, though we'll probably have to wait a year or two before we see it.

There's an expectation that Rodgers will retire after this season, so perhaps Allar gets his chance in 2027. Until that happens, however, we'll have to wait and see.
