Former Penn State star Drew Allar is in a position where he has to hope some things go his way over the next few months.

After being selected in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, it doesn't seem very likely that the Pittsburgh Steelers would move on from him right now.

On the flip side, some have made comments suggesting that Allar could be the odd man out in a crowded room, even if it makes absolutely no sense for that to happen.

I've been on record many times saying that I don't know where that's coming from, and I believe there's a near-0 % chance that he's cut before the season starts unless some drastic injury or something happens during training camp.

That seems to be what Bleacher Report believes as well, with one writer recently predicting that, instead of moving on from Allar or Will Howard, the Ohio State star from a few years ago, Pittsburgh would decide to move on from Mason Rudolph.

Rudolph, who's been around the league for quite a bit now, is a well-respected veteran. The Steelers might not want to trade a player who has found some success in the NFL, but if they believe their future is with either Howard or Allar, it would make more sense to move on from Rudolph than from the others.

“With Rodgers firmly entrenched as the starter for 2026, Pittsburgh appears to have just two backup quarterback spots available and three candidates competing for them. That could leave veteran Mason Rudolph on the outside looking in. Rudolph has spent most of the past eight seasons serving as Pittsburgh's primary backup and occasional starter. After a brief stint with the Tennessee Titans in 2024, he returned to the Steelers and immediately slotted in behind Rodgers.

“The circumstances around Rudolph have changed drastically, however, and could lead to a depth chart shakeup. With longtime head coach Mike Tomlin no longer in charge, new head coach Mike McCarthy may prefer to use the backup roles to develop his younger quarterbacks. Sixth-round pick Will Howard and rookie third-rounder Drew Allar both offer long-term upside that Rudolph, who turns 31 in July, no longer provides,” Alex Kay of Bleacher Report wrote.

There's a possibility that Mike McCarthy, the Steelers head coach, wants to go in the direction that Kay spoke about here. However, I'd be a bit surprised if Rudolph is the odd man out in that sense as well. If Rodgers were to go down, the Steelers would have two quarterbacks but absolutely no experience behind him, and that typically doesn't end well.
