There are a couple of landing spots that make a lot of sense for Drew Allar, and some that just don't make any. At the top of the list for me are the New York Jets as a team that doesn't make sense. Not that the Jets are in this terrible position and no one should want to play for them, but the harsh reality is that the former Penn State star needs to develop, and the Jets, unfortunately, haven't proven they can do that over their existence.
There's an argument that Allar needs to sit behind a veteran quarterback to learn the ropes in the NFL and continue developing, so a squad like the Los Angeles Rams with Matthew Stafford could make a lot of sense. An intriguing name was recently floated for Allar, predicting him to land with the Buffalo Bills. The former Penn State standout would have to sit behind Josh Allen, obviously, but many like to compare their play styles, so there's reason to believe this could work out.
“Round 5, #168: QB Drew Allar, Penn State.
“This is where the conversation might get started, and it might make people mad. Josh Allen is right in the middle of his prime and he doesn’t look like he’s slowing down at all. However, it’s better to be safe than sorry. It’s time for the Bills to really consider drafting a quarterback who has similar play to Allen to back him up and develop underneath him.
“Drew Allar out of Penn State is an intriguing option. He is 6-foot-5 and 235lbs, giving him similar size to Allen and he can play in the cold weather, having played at Penn State. His inconsistency has been the biggest knock on him, but he finished his career with 61 touchdowns to just 13 interceptions in four seasons. Coming off a season-ending ankle injury last year, his stock certainly dropped and if the Bills can get him in the 5th-round, it would be a wise decision to bring him in to compete and develop on a cheap rookie contract,” Brandon Ray wrote.
This would work out in the sense of Allar getting to develop with one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL right now. However, while I've seen many people say that they're similar players, the harsh reality is that that just isn't the case. Allen is a one-of-one type of player, and that's not to take away from what Allar has done in his career.
