Former Nittany Lion great Bobby Engram made it onto the 2027 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot
The 2027 College Football Hall of Fame Ballots are out, and there is one lone Nittany Lion on the list.
Penn State's 1994 leading wide receiver Bobby Engram is the lone Lion on the list, and it is about time. There are already two Penn State players from the 1994 undefeated team in the Hall of Fame: quarterback Kerry Collins and running back Ki-Jana Carter.
These three were the integral pieces of that 1994 team that went 12-0 (8-0), won the Big Ten Championship, and bested the Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl.
If we thought that the process to determine the National Champion stinks now, we would have been rioting back in the day. Penn State finished as the No. 2 team in the country behind the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
The Nittany Lions couldn't play the Cornhuskers because they were committed to playing in the Rose Bowl, as they had won the Big Ten. This piece isn't about the greatest National Champion snub of all time; it is about their leading receiver, Bobby Engram.
In an era when running the football was the way of college football, Engram produced back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons en route to an incredible career. He finished his playing time with 167 catches, 3,026 yards, and 31 touchdown receptions.
As it stands today, he is still the career leading receiver in Penn State history. However, his numbers are very good and would be hard to beat in any era of college football.
In 1994, Engram earned the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the Nation's best wide receiver. For all of his efforts in college, he was a second-round pick to the Chicago Bears, where he had a very solid 14-year career.
Engram would become the 26th Nittany Lion to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He would be the 20th player to go along with six coaches. Some of the other notable players in the Hall are Paul Posluszny, LaVar Arrington, and Curt Warner.
If he were to be inducted, he would be the first Penn State wide receiver to land in the Hall.
The voting deadline is July 1st, and the 2027 class will be announced during the College Football Playoff in January.
