Former Penn State quarterback Drew Allar got a very polarizing evaluation from one anonymous NFL executive.
Whoever lands Penn State's quarterback Drew Allar is going to get a diamond in the rough.
Allar became a victim of his situation in his final season in Happy Valley, and it cost him a very high draft position and a ton of money.
When the Nittany Lions made their run through the 2024 College Football Playoff, Allar was on top of the college football world. When they took the field against Notre Dame in the National Semifinal, one good performance would have him in the National Championship and likely a top-five pick in the draft.
As it turns out, that was the tip of his college football mountain, and it would just be downhill from there. His final drive interception against the Irish cost him and the Nittany Lions a chance at the title. He then decided that he, along with several of his veteran teammates, was going to return to Penn State for their final year.
2025 was supposed to be the year that Penn State climbed the mountain top and won the title. Instead, they had a five-game losing streak with losses to UCLA and Northwestern, James Franklin got fired, and Allar broke his ankle.
Complete, unmitigated disaster.
For Allar, it could be a blessing in disguise. He will not have the pressure of being a top pick in the draft and being asked to turn a franchise around. What will be required of him is to fix his fundamentals and become a high-quality starter in the league.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler released his pre-draft article, in which he interviews NFL executives from all across the league. Allar received a very interesting and positive report.
According to an anonymous executive, Allar is the favorite quarterback available outside of Mendoza. He went further to say that he has all of the tools necessary, although his "footwork is an absolute mess," but if he improves that, he can "take off and be great."
The right system is out there for Allar, and it could be the saving grace in his career. If he lands at a spot like the Los Angeles Rams or the San Francisco 49ers, he could make himself into a really great player.
Allar was built for the NFL. He has all of the traits; he just needs a coach and a system to believe in him, develop him, and then set him loose to be a great quarterback in this league.
