Penn State's new deal with Adidas is officially underway, and it is a major move from its former gear producer, Nike.
There is a case study to be done on the fall of Nike and what exactly happened to that brand, which is not for now. Penn State is one of the many colleges that have changed their deal from Nike, and a lot of them are going to Adidas.
The deal itself is a 10-year agreement that is worth $300 million. Penn State becomes the 15th Division 1 program to be sponsored by the three stripes. They join Indiana and Nebraska as the only Big Ten teams with Adidas.
Some of the most important factors that will be visible on the surface are the direct infusion of dollars into the athletic programs. Penn State isn't poor by any stretch, but on the football field, if they want to stay in the conversation with Ohio State, Michigan, and Indiana, they are going to have to start spending.
That infusion of cash is going to be a very important piece for the Penn State Football program.
One of the biggest and most public factors of this deal is that all Penn State Athletes are going to be able to participate in Adidas marketing campaigns to add dollars to their pockets. This, again, will add to what they are able to do from a recruiting perspective with some of the top recruits in the country.
Lastly, and most importantly for Penn State fans, the jersey will not be changing. Not that that was ever a part of the conversation, but Adidas released the new uniforms, and they are quite literally exactly the same, and they just swapped the Nike logo for the three stripes.
One of the smaller and more fun changes that fans will see comes in the bookstore. With the new Adidas deal, Penn State has more freedom to dip back into old imagery, old logos, and add all of that to the merch that is sold.

This is a major move for the Penn State athletic program and one that hopefully will elevate all of the programs. It is yet another piece of change for the Penn State football program in an offseason that has been full of it.
