The New York Jets’ quarterback situation continues to cause speculation, and as the 2026 NFL Draft approaches, the number of possibilities has only gotten bigger.
While most of the focus has been on drafting a quarterback late or signing a young free agent, as the Jets already have Geno Smith under center for next season, there are certainly a wide range of places the team can go.
Zach Pressnell recently named Penn State quarterback Drew Allar as a potential second-round option for the Jets. It’s not an unpopular take, but Pressnell doesn't believe it's the right one.
“This is a bit of a stretch. I don't like the idea of the Jets selecting Penn State's Drew Allar in the second round at all, but he's seemingly the third-best quarterback in the draft class.”
For the Jets, the issue is far bigger than it might seem. Not that Allar would be a bad player for the Jets by any means, but there's also a side of the story here that suggests that New York hasn't been able to develop a quarterback in a very long time, and if Allar is anything like what he was at Penn State, there will be some growing pains.
“The Jets don't hold a third-round pick, and Allar might be off the board in the fourth round. As a result, if the Jets want him, they will either need to trade back into round 3 or use a second-rounder on him.”
While not everyone loves him as a prospect, there is, however, some recent love working in Allar’s favor. After being expected to be one of the top quarterbacks in Penn State history, he did his job at times, but a lot of it ended with fans wanting more. That's something the Jets and other teams are unfortunately going to have to factor in.
According to Connor Hughes of SNY, Allar was in for a workout with the Jets and they liked him.
"They had something like a dozen Penn Staters in for a private workout. Among those players, the big name there was Drew Allar. And among the reasons why the Jets chose to bring everybody with Drew Allar...is when they put him through a workout, he was throwing to his guys. I was told they came away pretty impressed. He's a big dude, strong arm, great build, a lot of attributes there that you love."
