Penn State quarterback Drew Allar finds himself in a decent position heading into the 2026 NFL Draft. About a year ago, Allar was viewed as a potential number one pick, which obviously isn't the case right now.
However, while he likely won't be a first-rounder, he's still going to get drafted, and he'll have the same opportunity that he would have had regardless of whether he was drafted in the first round. Allar needs to win a job no matter where he goes, and will be tasked with doing so no matter his landing spot.
Among the teams that could look to draft him, the Pittsburgh Steelers stand out as an obvious suitor.
The Steelers are in a position where they could bring back a veteran in Aaron Rodgers. However, that also isn't a guarantee right now, as some are a bit uncertain about what Rodgers' future looks like in the NFL. Because of that, Allar could be the man for the job.
“The second QB Pittsburgh could target is someone like Drew Allar. Huge arm. Can scramble with above-average athleticism. Big, prototypical NFL starter body. He's everything you'd want in a QB without, you know, the results or consistency on tape to make you believe he's a franchise guy.
“But he won't cost a first-round pick, and if you can get him on day two or even day three, Allar is a lottery ticket that could turn into the steal of the century if everything works out right with the Penn State signal-caller,” Tyler Erzberger of USA Today wrote.
According to the latest report, it also sounds like there's been some interest between the Steelers and Allar. This isn't just people putting two and two together, as the two had actually met at the NFL Draft Combine.
"They did not meet formally with [Cade Klubnik] at the combine and he hasn't been in for a visit (those end tomorrow)," Ray Fittipaldo wrote. "I think they're more interested in guys like Carson Beck, Cole Payton and Taylen Green, who were in for visits. And guys like Drew Allar, who had a formal meeting at the combine."
If that's how things unfold, there are far worse options out there for the Steelers, and much worse options out there for Allar to end up with.
