The Penn State Nittany Lions have been given an interesting chance against Northwestern this weekend.
The Penn State Nittany Lions will be looking to get back on track tomorrow against Northwestern, in what could be a tough game for the team.
Penn State fell 24-20 to Wisconsin last week in what was one of the more surprising scores from the weekend. But the Nittany Lions believe that the loss to the Badgers was more of an outlier, and this team still has a lot to play for this year.
As the team gets ready for the Wildcats, the Nittany Lions will need to make sure that they don't overlook them. Northwestern has played much better to start the season than they have in year's past, opening the year 2-1 under head coach David Braun.
For Penn State, this can be a bounce-back game, with the team getting things right after the tough loss against Wisconsin. But Friday night games can be tough, especially having to go on the road.
Heading into the game, the Nittany Lions are favored to win the contest, but not by too much. According to ESPN, Penn State is being given a 55.9 percent chance to take down Northwestern on the road.
If the Nittany Lions are going to win this game, everything starts and end with quarterback Rocco Becht. Becht has looked good to open the year, throwing for 865 yards with nine touchdowns and one interception.
But against the Badgers, Becht struggled, throwing for just 114 yards and one interception. The veteran signal-caller will need to get back on track in this game against Northwestern if the Nittany Lions are to have a shot at winning.
Coming over from Iowa State with head coach Matt Campbell, Becht gives Penn State a legitimate option under center. But he has bene prone to some inconsistency at times during his career, and last week was one of those moments for him.
Northwestern has its own star quarterback in Aidan Chiles, who transferred to the team this offseason. So far, Chiles has played very well for the Wildcats, throwing for 807 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions.
If Penn State can find a way to slow him down, it could make life much easier to grab the win. But Chiles has turned this offense around, and this will be something that the Nittany Lions will need to focus on throughout the game.
Overall, Penn State needs to take down Northwestern if they want a chance to make the College Football Playoff this year. The Nittany Lions are off to a good a start this year, even with the loss last week, and this game offers them a chance to turn the page.
