Penn State head coach Matt Campbell commanded the podium as the Nittany Lions completed their rounds at Big Ten Media Days.
Penn State was the main attraction on day one of the Big Ten Media Days in downtown Chicago, Illinois.
Everyone has been waiting to hear from the newest Nittany Lions head coach, Matt Campbell, as he continues on his journey of turning the Penn State program around and getting it back to where it should be at the top of the Big Ten.
Campbell's opening statement finished with a line that has the potential to become the calling card of Penn State Football for years to come. He said that this team will get the "opportunity to pursue success with honor every single day within our football program."
From everything we have seen from Campbell, he definitely is a coach who has a million sayings just like this. From the signs he put up all throughout the facility to the few times that he has been behind a mic, he always has something profound to say.
This time, on his first time in front of the entire Big Ten media brass and on Big Ten Network, he dropped this one, and it just paints the picture perfectly about how his Penn State Program will be run.
His era of Penn State Football is going to continually do things the right way. This is not to say that it wasn't like that in the past, but going forward, things will get done the way they are supposed to.
There will be no shortcuts taken at any point anywhere. Not in the weight room, not in the classroom, not on the practice field, not anywhere. If you are a player at Penn State, then you will be held to the highest standard.
The hope is that the high standard of excellence will directly correlate with victories on the field because ultimately, that is what this all boils down to.
Matt Campbell has by far and away won the offseason. He immediately took over a program that was bleeding out and changed it to one that was standing on its two feet. Not only did he get it back on its feet, but he also started making major strides forward.
He recruited his tail off, he retained key players from the prior regime, he acquired some key transfers to aid him in the transition, and he set this program up.
Now, when the fall comes around, his success will either be multiplied drastically by winning or it will be totally extinguished by losing.
That time is here and whatever happens, the Nittany Lions are going to do it with honor.
