The Penn State Nittany Lions and head coach Matt Campbell have suffered a difficult recruiting loss this week.

After a brutal 2025 campaign, the Nittany Lions decided to make some aggressive changes. James Franklin, the team's former head coach, didn't reach the end of the year. He was fired and ended up landing with Virginia Tech.
Campbell was hired away from Iowa State. He has taken the Penn State job and ran with it since being hired. So far, the early returns have been good.
Unfortunately, the Nittany Lions received some bad recruiting news on Tuesday.
According to a report from Hayes Fawcett of Rivals, Penn State has seen four-star 2027 cornerback Semajay Robinson flip his commitment from the Nittany Lions to Virginia.
"BREAKING: Four-Star CB Semajay Robinson has Flipped his Commitment from Penn State to Virginia, his agent tells @Rivals," Fawcett wrote on X.
"The 6’2 190 CB had been Committed to the Nittany Lions since March."
Rivals currently has Robinson ranked as the No. 34 overall cornerback in the nation for the 2027 recruiting class. He is also ranked No. 255 in the nation.
On3 Sports currently has the 2027 Penn State recruiting class ranked No. 18 in the nation. That alone shows just how hard Campbell has been working to put the Nittany Lions back on the map. Losing Robinson was a tough blow to the class.
At this point in time, the Penn State 2027 class is headlined by six four-star prospects. Those players include cornerback Kei-Shjuan Telfair, defensive lineman Stanley Montgomery, tight end Cooper Terwilliger, wide receiver Landon Blum, running back Aiden Gibson, and wide receiver Jamir Dean.
Robinson choosing to flip his commitment could make Campbell and the Nittany Lions turn to other cornerback options. Campbell will need to move quickly as players continue making their final decisions on a commitment.
All of that being said, these setbacks happen all of the time. Robinson could have been a big part of the Penn State defense moving forward, but he has officially chosen to take his talents to Virginia.
