As Penn State Nittany Lions’ newly-hired head coach Matt Campbell begins to settle into State College, the program will now shift their focus towards the 2027 recruiting class.
While the Nittany Lions have not made noise within the upcoming class, Campbell and his new coaching staff received some terrific news this week regarding one of the top targets in the cycle.
According to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett on Friday afternoon, 2027 four-star running back Isaiah Rogers has announced his top eight schools, with the Nittany Lions making the cut.
Rogers, coming out of Springfield, MA, is widely regarded as one of the top running back recruits in the upcoming cycle. Currently, the prolific rusher is the No. 2-ranked prospect in the state of Massachusetts, as well as the No. 7-ranked running back in the class, per 247Sports’ Composite.
Despite receiving limited playing time in his first two years at Springfield Central High School, Rogers quickly emerged as a top playmaker during his junior year with the Golden Eagles. In 2025, the blossoming star tallied 986 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on just 126 carries.
In addition to his success on the ground, Rogers also proved to be an excellent weapon through the air, recording 32 catches for 373 yards and three touchdowns. His ability to be a difference-maker in all aspects of the offense will allow him to excel at the college level and could easily fit into Campbell’s offensive system.
However, in order to land Rogers in the upcoming class, Campbell and the rest of the coaching staff must fight off the likes of multiple Power Four programs. This includes the Indiana Hoosiers, the Georgia Bulldogs, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who are all top-tier title contenders.
Looking ahead at the Nittany Lions’ 2027 recruiting class, Campbell has yet to land his first commit. Luckily for the coaching staff, Penn State continues to be aggressive in its pursuit of a running back, as the program is in the running for three-star running backs Gary Walker and Aiden Gibson.
Both prospects are ranked within the top-35 running backs in the class, and would be perfect additions to the roster in the future.
