During the 2025 college football season, nothing went right for the Penn State Nittany Lions. From firing head coach James Franklin to seeing star quarterback Drew Allar go down with a season-ending broken left ankle, it was a nightmare season.
Prior to the start of the year, Allar was talked about as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate. He was also being talked about as a potential top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Now, with under two months until the draft arrives, Allar is being viewed as a second or potentially third-round pick.
Allar has been working hard to get back on the field after suffering the broken ankle. He shared an update about where he is in his recovery process during the Combine.
As shared by Johnny McGonigal of Penn Live, Allar seems to be ready to play.
“If I had to go out and play a game today, I feel like I could get it done,” Allar said.
Before going down with the injury, Allar played in six games. He completed 64.8 percent of his pass attempts for 1,100 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions. Allar also ran for 172 yards and a score.
Throughout his entire four-year career with the Nittany Lions, Allar threw for 7,402 yards, 61 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He completed 63.2 percent of his passes as a college quarterback. In addition, he ran for 736 yards and 12 touchdowns.
There are quite a few NFL teams who could use help at the quarterback position. Whether he gets drafted in the first round or the seventh, all Allar needs is a chance.
Thankfully, his recovery process seems to be over. Teams will not need to worry about that impacting his rookie season. All that is left to figure out for Allar is where he will play the first chapter of his NFL career.
Expect to continue hearing Allar's name come up quite a bit as the NFL Draft approaches. He's going to be the most intriguing quarterback prospect in the class. Regardless of where he lands, Allar will have a chance to develop and become a long-term starter at the professional level.
