The Penn State Nittany Lions spring practice is just a couple of weeks around the corner
The Penn State Nittany Lions' spring practice is right around the corner, and the excitement around this team is growing.
The word "excitement" can be interchanged with the word "anxiousness" because that is the feeling around this team after everything that went down last season. This time last year, Nittany Lions fans believed they had the best team in America; now, they have a new coach and a totally new roster.
A lot can change over the course of 365 days, and Penn State fans have lived through this.
Now, they are just a couple of weeks away from getting the first public look at Matt Campbell's version of the Nittany Lions team.
Campbell has one of the hardest jobs in all of sports right now. He took over a program that was in legitimate shambles. They went through a disaster of a football season where they lost their coach and their prodigy quarterback broke his ankle, and the year spiralled out of control.
Losses to UCLA and Northwestern are as close to rock bottom that a Big Ten team could get, and the Nittany Lions were right there.
They then went into the coaching search with what they believed was a plan to hire their new coach, but it turned out to be a complete disaster. However, they came out of that smelling like a total rose and may have actually gotten the best coaching option that they could have.
Head coach Matt Campbell has been at the helm for four months and he has reestablished the program, brought his transfers in, and is off and running on making this team a winner.
What it will look like, no one knows quite yet. What people will know is that this is going to be a fundamentally sound football team and one that is going to be one of the toughest in the country.
Unfortunately, that alone doesn't win very many football games. They are going to need to find ways to compete with the top teams in the Big Ten, which will be a challenge, but one they don't have to tackle quite yet.
For now, the Nittany Lions are crafting their team and putting the opening touches on what this season will look like.
For Nittany Lion fans, they will get their first look at them on April 25th during the Blue & White practice. The ball is put down at 1:00 pm.
