The New York Jets have made it rather clear that they’re not leaving anything on the table when it comes to the quarterback position, which includes looking at some of the top prospects in this year’s draft.
Even after landing Geno Smith already this offseason, the front office continues to look at the class, and Penn State’s Drew Allar is someone they like.
According to the latest, Allar and the Jets actually met, and it seemed to have gone well for the former Penn State star.
“[The meeting] was a lot of tape from this past year and then quizzing me on their installs and that sort of thing,” Allar said, per Arye Pulli. “For me, it was just about going out and showing what I could do on the field and that sort of thing... I also got to catch up with a couple of my former teammates who are on the Jets, so it was a really fun trip.”
Reports have indicated that the Jets also have some level of interest in Allar, as he impressed them.
"The big name there was [Allar]," Connor Hughes of SNYtv said.
"Among the reasons why the Jets chose to bring everyone with [Allar], like a bunch of other Penn State people if when they put him through a workout, he was throwing to his guys. So, you got a chance to see him work with his receivers, his tight ends, some of his backs, which is a big thing. "Was told they came away pretty impressed. He's a big dude, strong arm, great build, a lot of attributes there that you love. There's just some of the mental game that you need to pick up there."
Allar fits into taking a chance as well as anyone. He’s got the size, the arm, and more to suggest that he can be a very good player one day.
Whether the Jets end up with Allar or someone else, it’s good to see that both sides are doing what’s needed in the process. After many rough years, the Jets are doing things the right way here.
