The Los Angeles Rams don’t have a quarterback problem right now, but there have been questions about the long-term at the position. After a 2025 season where Matthew Stafford won the MVP Award, there’s obviously no reason to even worry about it for most fans.

However, the team will need to start making some moves to figure that out in the future, and Penn State could help with that.

ESPN’s Matt Miller looked at the future for the Rams and projected that Los Angeles would select Drew Allar out of Penn State at No. 61 in the 2026 NFL Draft.

“Matthew Stafford was last season's MVP, but he's also 38 years old. The Rams could take a swing on Allar's traits and potential to develop him for a season and hope to tap into his high-end arm talent,” he wrote.

I’ve said a few times now that I think Allar can be a very good player in the NFL, but it’ll take some time for him to get used to the grind of a full season. He needs to develop more and that’s totally fine.

However, doing so in certain systems would be much more beneficial than, say, playing with the New York Jets.

And ESPN isn’t the only one seeing the fit. Ayrton Ostly of USA TODAY had the same idea and believes Allar to the Rams would make sense with Stafford potentially hanging them up in the future.

“Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford just won his first NFL MVP in 2025 and the offense was one of the most dangerous units in the league last season. But Stafford is entering his age-38 season and there were questions less than a year ago about his health. Los Angeles would do well to plan for the future of the position sooner rather than later.”

The only thing that might turn the Rams off is doing so in the first round. Most projections have Allar going in the second or third round, which would be a much better outcome than going in round one, as Los Angeles is looking to win a Super Bowl and could use impact players.
