There’s always a level of uncertainty that comes with the NFL Draft, especially for quarterbacks, and Drew Allar is a great example of that due to injury. While concerning, and some don’t think he’ll get picked as high as he likely wants, he’s leaning into the uncertainty.
Allar had questions at Penn State, but some of those have focused on James Franklin. He recently spoke about how he feels he did in college and sounds confident in his showings.
“I feel really good with everything I’ve done up until this point throughout my career at Penn State, and then the last two, three months of training,” Allar said after his workout, per 247 Sports. “But now it’s just taking it a week at a time, a day at a time, doing my best on all these visits, these zoom calls, these interviews and then just let the chips fall where they may. I don’t know what round, what pick, what team I’m going to be drafted to. All I can hope for is the opportunity to go into a good situation and compete and make myself a better player.”
The film is the film at this point, so Allar can’t change much. Teams already know what he can and can’t do at a high level, but he’s trying to show them that what he can do is much more than what he can’t do.
"My game plan was just to come out here and just show teams what I can do from a throwing standpoint," Allar said. "Really, it was just to kind of showcase a lot of different things that I either put on tape or at the next level that you see a lot on Sundays. … I feel really good about everything. It was great being back with all the receivers and Kaytron. It was a really fun process getting back together and just throwing together."
Allar is a nice player and I expect him to find success in the NFL. I do think he needs to be in a good system and develop for a bit, but we can say that about everyone who has ever played the game.
