The Penn State Nittany Lions Football program is still one of the top-10 most valuable programs in all of college football.
The sport of college football continues to grow without any bounds. The popularity of the game has never been higher, and as the industry of college football continues to develop, the programs continue to grow in value.
The top-10 schools combined have a value of $18.68 billion, with the Texas Longhorns at the top of the list with a valuation of $2.46 billion, and the Penn State Nittany Lions rounding out the top 10 with a valuation of $1.4 billion.
The other programs on the list are the usual suspects. Ohio State, Notre Dame, Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma, USC, and the Tennessee Volunteers make up the rest of the top of the list, and the numbers are just staggering.
Each one of these programs has a rabid and national fanbase that supports each program week after week.
Then, internally, each of these programs has incredible facilities. From their massive, 100,000-plus-seat stadiums to the elite practice facilities, elite player health and training areas, to the massive brand deals that they all have.
At the end of the day, all of those things are fine, but at the end of the day, the money follows the team that wins. Over the last decade, the teams on this list have consistently been winning programs.
For Penn State, it is about getting back to winning this year. They have been a team that is consistently a 9- or 10-win program when they were under the watch of James Franklin. Now that Franklin is no longer with the program, it transitions to new leadership under Matt Campbell.
Campbell comes to Penn State from the Iowa State program that, from a value perspective, is nowhere close to what he has now. Campbell has found success at both Toledo and Iowa State with limited resources, and now at Penn State, he walks into a program with unlimited resources that is desperate for a winning program.
The Nittany Lions program is exactly where it needs to be and wants to be. Its peers are all competing at the top of the sport and are in the mix for National Championships every single year.
Under Matt Campbell, the Nittany Lions are going to get back to their winning ways, and when they do, the value next to their name will only continue to climb the ladder.
