Drew Allar has definitely had some wars with Will Howard in the past, though they'll now be teammates.

The former Penn State and Ohio State quarterbacks were two of the better players in the country just two seasons ago and will now have an opportunity to show whether they can play at the highest level in the NFL.

Howard, who is entering his second season in the league, has yet to show what he has at the highest level. Allar, who's going to be a rookie, perhaps has even more to prove.

While there have been a lot of questions about what the Steelers are going to do at the backup quarterback position, with Aaron Rodgers all but guaranteed to be the starter barring something drastic happening, there have been many who have questioned how Howard and even veteran Mason Rudolph feel about having four quarterbacks in the room.

Speaking to reporters about the current quarterback situation, it sounds like there's a lot of mutual respect between Howard, Allar, Rodgers, and Rudolph.

"Yeah no, I think that is just the nature of the position and the nature of football as a whole," Howard said of the Steelers QB room, per Steelers Nation. "You are just competing every single day and trying to make yourself better. At the same time, you make yourself better, then you make those around you do better. When he's doing well that's good because that makes me want to do well and likewise. I think right now we are all just trying to get better every day and be the best versions of ourselves.

"Having a guy there in Drew and Mason and Aaron, all of us are just competing and trying to get better every single day and I would not rather be in another QB room with a better group of guys," Howard said. "This is really a special group of guys that I am blessed to go to work with every single day."

For guys like Allar and Howard specifically, it isn't easy being in the positions they're in. They obviously want to play right away, but they have to understand that this is the nature of the NFL.

Allar once proved that he can be a really good player at Penn State, but Howard did similar things at Ohio State. For those reasons and more, there's no guarantee that the former Penn State star is going to be able to win a job, even if something were to happen to Rodgers.
