After a 45-0 win against Marshall on Saturday, Penn State has to feel relatively good about how it looked. The Nittany Lions are currently No. 16 in the country, according to the AP poll. There was a lot to like about what the Nittany Lions did on both sides of the ball, and ultimately, it was a step in the right direction for Matt Campbell and his team in their first game.
The Nittany Lions will take on Temple on Saturday, a game that will almost feel like a home game. Penn State will travel to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, with a chance to play a decent Temple program.
While Penn State should easily come away with this win, there are some other factors at play, as the Nittany Lions will play their first road game of the season, and Campbell's first road game with the Nittany Lions.
He admitted he'd already discussed it with his team, and he's viewing it as a big step to make a statement.
"Huge step for us. Really talked about it Saturday as soon as we got in the locker room. You're already kind of behind schedule playing a noon game, let alone on top of that having to get yourself ready for your first road trip as a team and as a program. I think this is going to be huge for us.
"Great teams play great on the road. That's just how it goes. Understanding the zoom focus is takes, understanding a noon game on the road on top of it. I think a lot of things that this group is going to have to navigate forward, with the leadership of our coaching staff, the leadership of our players. We're going to have to handle it,” he said, per Penn Live.
This doesn't really feel like a true road game to me because Penn State fans travel well, and it will be well represented at Lincoln Financial.
However, it's still a nice test. Not to say Temple is a great program, but it isn't bad by any means and could give Penn State trouble if it doesn't come out and do what's needed on both sides of the ball.
