Penn State head coach Matt Campbell is staying red hot on the recruiting trail for 2027.

Penn State head coach Matt Campbell is changing the perception of the Penn State program right before our very eyes.

The Nittany Lions had already gotten off to a solid start, but day after day, it continues to get significantly better. As it stands right now, Penn State has 12 commits to its name for the 2027 class, and it is currently ranked as the No. 9 class in the country, 2 spots ahead of Notre Dame and five spots behind Ohio State.

Within those 12 commits, they have three 4-star players and nine 3-star players. They are stacking up on the players that they know they can get and then fishing on the fringes of the next tier up.

While they have 12 commits, they are on the verge of a couple of huge gets in the next couple of days.

In the last 48 hours, they have been crystal ball'd for 4-star running back Aiden Gibson from South Carolina, and they will hear the news on 4-star edge rusher from Don Bosco in New Jersey on Thursday afternoon.

It's all for not if you don't have the future quarterback, and Campbell is hustling to find his. He is in an active recruiting battle for 4-star signal caller Peter Borque from Massachusetts.

If he can land those three 4-stars, the Penn State class will take a massive leap. If he can only get one or two of those three, it will be an inevitable welcome addition to the class.

Campbell is doing exactly what he needs to do to re-establish the foundation of the program. He is selling the right things and hitting all of the right notes. Now, all of that goodwill goes away if it doesn't translate to victories on Saturdays in the fall.

The reverse of that is also very true. If they start winning football games in the fall, it will be gasoline of the fire for their recruiting efforts. Those 3-star conversations will turn into 4-star conversations, and the 4-star conversations will turn into 5-star conversations.

Winning will either accelerate the efforts or be water on the flames. Regardless of what the future holds, Campbell has done what it takes to reestablish what it means to be a Nittany Lion, and if he can restore the winning, this program will quickly get back to the glory days of Penn State football.
