Penn State has built a reputation as one of the better teams in America throughout much of its history.
The football program continues to reach new heights, even after a disappointing season.
With head coach Matt Campbell now running the show, there's certainly an expectation that the Nittany Lions are going to be a different football team than we've seen in the past.
Whether that's for better or worse, we won't know until we find out, but there's a lot to be excited about, including some of the changes to the coaching staff we've seen as well.
One of those is on the offensive line, as it sounds like Penn State is taking a completely different strategy than what we typically see out of the Nittany Lions up front. According to Penn State's offensive line coach, this is the best offensive line group that he's ever personally been around.
While he admits he hasn't coached forever, how the line is built is a testament to what Campbell wants to build.
“I think just as a collective whole, this is probably the best offensive line that I’ve gotten to be around personally. And I haven’t coached forever. But I think those guys, with how Coach Campbell wants to play, can be the differentiating factor,” Taylor Mouser said, per On3.
“I think just the o-line that we have here is between, you know, Goody (Malachi Goodman) and (Anthony) Donkoh and Brock (Riker) and Cooper (Cousins) and Trevor Buhr and Owen (Aliciene), there’s just there’s depth, and there’s elite talent on the offensive line. And we had some really good offensive linemen at Iowa State.”
It's very important to be tough up front, something Penn State continues to emphasize. With Campbell coming over from the Midwest, a lot of Penn State fans have been hopeful that they can get some of those top offensive line recruits out of the Midwest. He built a roster that features many guys from Iowa State, which should bring some Midwest toughness. They will have to see how that plays out in the Big Ten before we get too excited.
