Ticket prices for Saturday night's whiteout against USC continue to plummet as the game inches closer.

The Penn State Nittany Lions program is in a very weird spot right now. I'd say that it is a program that is teetering on relevancy in its current form. No longer can they hide their mediocrity behind a historic logo and a storied history.

Those days and the benefit of the doubt are gone, as Matt Campbell's version of the Nittany Lions has been an incredible disappointment to this point in the year.

For the Nittany Lions fanbase, this is all of their worst fears coming true.

Penn State's disaster season led to an opportunity to get rid of a very above-average coach in James Franklin, with the hope that Penn State could hire a guy to make them a contender.

They filtered through candidates and never found their guy until they were forced to settle on Matt Campbell, who, at the time, felt like a home run hire.

So far during his tenure, he has been nothing more than a pop-out, and the fans are not going to stand for it. Don't take my word for it; the fans are saying everything they need to with their wallets.

With just five days remaining until Penn State's whiteout, a historic environment in college football, ticket prices have plummeted more than 61 percent over the past week. Tickets that are typically around $200-$250 at face value and between $300-$400 on the secondary market are now being listed for as low as $83.64.

Could it be the disappointing start to the season? Could it be a growing sense of apathy towards a middling program? Could it be the stadium renovations? Could it simply be a lack of interest?

Whatever the case may be, the Nittany Lions are in big trouble in the big picture of their season. They had three weeks of fun when they made easy work of their three games against inferior opponents.

Then, they locked horns with two of the bottom-tier Big Ten opponents and had two of the worst losses that they could have possibly had. First, it was a blown lead against the Wisconsin Badgers who the Nittany Lions were massive favorites against.

Now, they are going to have to face the music in front of their home fans. Yes, there are going to be people in the stands, and it is going to be a good environment, but what happens when this season gets worse?

The White Out has been a sellout for years and now they can't max out the stadium. It is a bad look for a program that has its back against the wall.
