As I look at Penn State's roster right now, I think this team has a chance to be very good. At the same time, I have my fair share of questions about whether the guys coming from the Big 12 will be good enough to compete at the highest level in the Big Ten.

The reality is that the Big Ten and the Big 12 are completely different conferences, as the Big Ten is typically viewed as a much superior conference from top to bottom.

The Big 12 has some very high-scoring offensive games, while the Big Ten is typically known for its hard-nosed defense and top-five teams. That makes next season for Penn State perhaps more interesting than some we've seen in quite some time.

If Penn State is the team it's expected to be, there's a very good chance these guys from Iowa State who transferred with head coach Matt Campbell can have a great time.

One player in particular who needs to do so is Rocco Becht, the veteran quarterback who has many tools to be a great player and has proven that at times, but perhaps still has some questions because of his lack of success in a bigger conference like the Big Ten.

“A big deal that we’ve been working on is throwing to his left,” QB coach Jake Waters said, per Centre Daily Times. “I think that’s always really hard for right-handed quarterbacks to throw to the left, left-handed quarterbacks to throw to the right. Because you have to get aligned. ... And then being able to have our hips and shoulders aligned, not to where he’s at, but where we need to throw it.”

“Rocco’s made some of the most incredible throws I’ve ever seen,” Taylor Mouser said. “He also has missed a couple layups, so there’s some consistency factors there, I think with him, of just accurate accuracy on some of the short throws, a big thing for us that we’ve tried to instill and develop him with his consistency with his footwork. ... I think there’s a consistency factor that we can get to from an accuracy standpoint.”

It's always promising to hear coaches have promising things to say about some of these guys.

Ultimately, that familiarity with many coaches and players on the current roster is a very ideal situation for a Penn State team that needs to compete right away. I still have some doubts about how things will look, but I'm also excited to watch him play.

I know that he has the tools to be very good, and he proved that at Iowa State. I just have my questions about whether it will translate to Penn State.
