The Pittsburgh Steelers' decision to draft Drew Allar has definitely raised some concerns in the organization. The former Penn State product has caught some heat for absolutely no reason, but that's just the nature of the game at this point in 2026.

Hot takes fly around, players get bashed, and even franchise legends have things to say about organizations' decisions, even if they shouldn't at times.

That seems to be the case a lot with the Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger, as the Steelers legend has had plenty to say about Penn State quarterback Drew Allar after the Steelers decided to select him in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

However, some are pushing back on Roethlisberger's comments, saying he's petty and that his comments about Allar are a bit unfair. Frankly, I don't know how anybody can say anything else right now because of how ridiculous some of them are.

“I’m a Ben guy, but Ben is awfully petty. Tom Petty,” Mark Madden said, H/T Yahoo. “And when Ben passes judgment on where Allar’s at in his career, well, of course, Allar isn’t as far advanced as Ben was. Ben was 15-1 as a rookie when he got in there after Maddox got hurt and 100% got it. So maybe Ben doesn’t really get where Allar is at as a rookie because he was so far ahead.”

There's also a side of the story here that I think Penn State fans need to recognize, as Roethlisberger has said a lot of good things about Will Howard. Not to say he's an Ohio State guy or anything, but it almost feels like Howard and Roethlisberger have formed a decent relationship because he's been with the organization a year longer than Allar.

Perhaps he thinks he should be the franchise quarterback moving forward, as his comments indicate.

“I love his heart, his fire, I think he is Pittsburgh,” Roethlisberger said of Howard. “I think he’s tough, he’s gritty, he’s going to get you what you want. Could be completely wrong, but I think you have a guy in there.”
