Former Penn State Nittany Lion Chaz Coleman's time at Tennessee has officially parted ways with Tennessee.
Chaz Coleman's chapter in Tennessee has officially come to a close before it ever really got started.
On Friday, it was announced that Tennessee has "parted ways" with Coleman in a report that came from On3's Chris Low.
Coleman transferred to Tennessee after just one season at Penn State. He was one of the many who jumped ship in Happy Valley after James Franklin was relieved of his duties during the middle of the season last year.
Coleman's time in Knoxville was shaky from the start. He was in and out of the program at the start of the new season in January, and then when Spring Ball began, he missed the second half of it. That was the first major red flag that put his status with the Volunteers in major question.
After missing the start of Voluntary Summer workouts, Coleman resurfaced in Knoxville on Friday, and when he did, it became official that he was disqualified from the Tennessee roster.
Just earlier this week, head coach Josh Heupel told On3, "Chaz is dealing with some things, and we're here to support him... We'll continue to go through that process."
Now, on Friday, Coleman's time in Tennessee is now complete.
This has been a sad story to watch unfold, and the truth is, there are a lot of lessons to be learned for all of these young men who are being offered millions of dollars to play the sport of football at the age of 17, 18, and 19.
When he was at Penn State, Coleman was about four hours from his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio, which is around 10 hours away from Knoxville, Tennessee. From all of the reports, this seemed to be the root of all of the issues. There certainly could be more to his uncertainty, but we will leave the speculation for another time.
For now, it is official that Coleman is not on the Tennessee roster.
From an on-field perspective, Coleman was made in a lab to rush the passer. He stands at 6'4" and weighs in at about 250 pounds. He has long arms and a quick first step that makes him nearly impossible to block.
If another team musters up the courage to take a chance on him, he certainly will find success, but he has to do it at the right place.
