This week is a massive one for the start of Matt Campbell's era at Penn State.
The Penn State Nittany Lions program has a major week ahead of itself. This week, Penn State hosts a plethora of top-level recruits, specifically bringing six four-star athletes to visit Happy Valley.
This is all on top of a 2027 class that has already added 20 new recruits and is currently ranked as the No. 6 class in the country.
Already in the class are six four-star recruits and 14 three-star recruits. This week could be a major one for Penn State as they look to add to the already impressive list.
The Nittany Lions are hosting two four-star receivers, two four-star defensive linemen, a linebacker, and a cornerback to go along with four other three-star guys.
This is yet another positive note in what has been a great six months since Matt Campbell took over the program. Penn State is on a quest to take that next step. The task that is in front of Matt Campbell and the program is to elevate it to a spot where they are competing with the likes of Ohio State, Indiana, and Oregon at the top of the conference.
That won't come tomorrow, but re-establishing the foundation of the program after it was all blown up in 2025 is step number one.
That is accomplished, and the continued clue here is that they have not taken steps back in recruiting; they have taken several steps forward instead.
Step two for Campbell and the staff is to turn this all into wins during the fall. That is ultimately the most important part of this, and it is now very clear that Campbell can fix a culture; the jury is still out whether or not it will translate to the field.
That answer comes in the first week of September when the Nittany Lions take the field against the Marshall Thundering Herd to really kick off the Campbell era.
Until then, they need to continue to stack wins like this on a week-in, week-out basis.
