Penn State head coach Matt Campbell has been off to an amazing start on the recruiting trail in his first couple of months as the Penn State head coach.

When you search the recruiting rankings for the 2027 class, you don't have to scroll far to find the Penn State logo.

As it stands right now, Penn State has the No. 6-ranked 2027 recruiting class. This is coming off the heels of a very strong weekend where they nabbed a commitment from the number four player in the state of Ohio.

Cornerback Kei'Shjuan Telfair from Euclid High School, east of Cleveland, committed to Campbell and the Nittany Lions. Telfair is just the most recent in a now decent line of players who are buying what Matt Campbell and his staff are selling.

Campbell had his work cut out for him when he took over the Penn State program. He took over a team and program that was not only coming off of one of its worst seasons in nearly a decade, but had lost a lot of goodwill with its own fanbase and with college football in general.

Campbell showed up and was fighting an uphill battle from the second he stepped onto campus, and he has infused so much positive momentum into the program.

He started it internally by reconnecting the football team to the alumni and the school, and has continued it by dominating on the recruiting trail.

As it stands right now, he has 11 commits, right now and it is split between three stars and four stars. Penn State has landed eight three-star players and three four-star players.

They trail rival Ohio State by two spots but are ahead of programs like Notre Dame, Texas, Georgia, Miami, and Texas Tech.

They are right where they need to be as they try to take the next step back to national relevance.

In terms of the hire just in general, Penn State couldn't be higher about landing Matt Campbell. It was a windy road to get there as they had to go through a lot of 'No's" to get to Campbell, but they couldn't have gotten a better guy for the job.

Now, all of this built-up goodwill goes away if he doesn't produce a winner on the football field in the fall. But the flip side is also true. Winning football games in the fall will be like pouring gasoline on the fire. They will launch themselves into the upper, Ohio State tier of college football.

Until then, Campbell and his staff are going to continue pounding the pavement to push the fact that the culture is changing in Happy Valley, and people better jump on the bandwagon now.
