Penn State Announces Coaching Staff Additions For HC Matt Campbell in 2026 cover image

The Penn State Nittany Lions recently announced the hiring of 10 different staff members on Friday prior to the 2026 college football season.

With all the excitement surrounding the Penn State Nittany Lions’ hiring of former Iowa State Cyclones head coach Matt Campbell, the highly-regarded coach has now begun to fill out his staff for the 2026 season.

On Friday, the program announced the hiring of 10 different staff members, including the Nittany Lions’ offensive play caller. Here are the names fans should keep an eye on before the 2026 college football season.

Taylor Mouser (Offensive Coordinator/Tight Ends Coach)

After spending the last 10 seasons with Campbell and the Cyclones in multiple roles with the program, Mouser now joins the Nittany Lions’ newest coaching staff.

Throughout his time in Ames, the 34-year-old coach quickly rose through the ranks and eventually took over the play-calling role in 2024. Mouser’s impact was felt last season, as he led Iowa State’s offense to an 11-3 record with a bowl game victory over the Miami Hurricanes.

If quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer decides to stay with Penn State in 2026, Mouser will play a key role in his development.

Deon Broomfield (Defensive Back Coach)

Penn State fans should be excited about the addition of defensive backs coach Deon Broomfield.

Before joining the Cyclones, Broomfield spent the 2020 season with the Houston Texans as a defensive assistant. Once he landed with Iowa State, however, he would turn the program’s secondary unit into one of the best units in college football, finishing first nationally in passing defense, allowing just 165.6 yards per game, while also finishing 22nd nationally in interceptions.

While the defense benefited from his efforts, Broomfield played a critical role in helping defensive backs T.J. Tampa and Darion Porter become NFL-caliber players, with Tampa being drafted in 2024 and Porter being selected in the following draft.

In addition to both Mouser and Broomfield joining the Nittany Lions for the 2026 season, Campbell also filled eight more roles, including offensive line coach Ryan Clanton and general manager Derek Hoodjer:

- Ryan Clanton: Offensive Line Coach

- Skip Brabenec: Football Chief of Staff

- Derek Hoodjer: General Manager

- Aaron Hillmann: Director of Sports Performance Operations

- Reid Kagy: Head Strength and Conditioning Coach

- Brandon Pietrzyk: Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach

- Trent Slattenow: Director of Player Personnel

- Jack Griffith: Recruiting Assistant
