Entering the 2025 college football season, the Penn State Nittany Lions were widely expected to be a top-tier national championship contender.
Led by star quarterback Drew Allar, Penn State was coming off of a 2024 season that saw them end as a top contender. Unfortunately, this season did not go as the program or media had expected.
At the beginning of the season, things started off as planned. The Nittany Lions went 3-0 to start the season before suffering a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Oregon Ducks at home. That started a slide.
Penn State came back the next week and on the road against UCLA. Then, the loss to Northwestern happened that saw Allar go down with a season-ending injury. When all was said and done, the Nittany Lions went 7-6 on the season and fired head coach James Franklin.
After a long coaching search, Penn State landed on former Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell to lead the program forward. Unfortunately, Allar's college career has come to an end.
Looking ahead at the future for the talented quarterback, Allar is still expected to be selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. He may not be a first-round like many thought he would be ahead of the 2025 season, but he should still be given an opportunity to prove that he can be an NFL quarterback.
In the six games he did play this season, Allar completed 64.8 percent of his pass attempts for 1,100 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions. He also ran for 172 yards and another score.
Where could Allar end up in the 2026 draft? A new prediction has been made.
Jared Mueller of Dawgs By Nature has come up with a new mock draft for the Cleveland Browns. He has the team taking Allar in the sixth round.
Falling all the way to the sixth round is quite the fall. Unfortunately, that is the reality of the situation that he finds himself in.
Thankfully, Allar isn't the kind of player who allows setbacks to define him. He will continue working hard. If an NFL team gives him an opportunity, he will make the most of it.
Expect to see the Penn State standout get drafted in April. It may not be as high as he would have liked, but simply being drafted will give him a chance to get healthy and prove that he can be the first-round talent that many felt he was prior to the 2025 season.
