Penn State Star Linebacker Plans to Enter Transfer Portal cover image

The Penn State Nittany Lions are set to lose another player to the transfer portal this offseason, according to multiple reports.

After a dominant bowl game victory over the Clemson Tigers this past week, the Penn State Nittany Lions have now officially closed the book on what was a horrific 2025 college football season.

Unfortunately for the struggling program, the time is now for former players to enter the transfer portal.

According to On3Sports’ Hayes Fawcett on Monday, Penn State linebacker Keon Wylie plans on entering the transfer portal.

Wylie, a former three-star linebacker in the Nittany Lions’ historic 2022 recruiting class, was able to make a name for himself during his sophomore season with the program. In 2023, Wylie tallied 17 tackles and three sacks, showing great promise for his future with Penn State.

However, the rising playmaker would face some adversity in 2024, as he would miss the entire season due to an injury.

Once he became fully healthy for the 2025 season, Wylie picked up right where he left off in 2023.

This year, the Philadelphia native played in nine games for the Nittany Lions, once again playing a key role on defense. Wylie finished his final season in State College with 28 tackles, one pass deflection, and one sack. His return in 2025 also included a clutch performance against the Michigan State Spartans late in the season, as he recorded four tackles and one sack in the 28-10 victory.

Now, Wylie joins eight players who have announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal this offseason. He is also the second linebacker to throw his name into the portal this offseason, including former 2024 three-star Kari Jackson.

Luckily for Nittany Lions’ fans, newly-hired head coach Matt Campbell continues to make waves in the 2026 recruiting cycle. Since taking over as the head coach, Campbell has managed to land eight commits in the 2026 class, including three-star safety Tyrell Chatman and three-star linebacker Keian Kaiser.

Out of the eight commits under Campbell, seven of the eight recruits were either committed or signed their letter of intent to the Cyclones. The up-and-coming head coach was able to flip three-star wide receiver Ben Whitver from the James Madison Dukes following the departure of the program’s head coach, Bob Chesney.
