A really tough week for Rocco Becht got tougher for the Nittany Lions signal caller as he continues to receive harsh criticism for his play.
Saturday was just a really tough day for the Penn State quarterback Rocco Becht. It was the fourth straight "really tough" Saturday for the Iowa State transfer, as he continues to try to find his way as the Penn State quarterback.
Becht and the Nittany Lions are on a four game losing streak, all within the Big Ten that he has played wel in exactly zero of those games.
It was interceptions against Wisconsin that cost them, a total non-competitive effort against Northwestern, a solid game against USC that just wasn't enough, and a bad game against Michigan that cost Penn State a chance.
It's a very fascinating thing that is happening with Penn State because nothing has gone right for Penn State, but Matt Campbell isn't interested in making any changes. He basically brought over most of his Iowa State roster at all of the key positions, and nothing has translated into good football.
For Becht, it was a hard enough weekend, and then on Monday, he woke up to an X post from a teammate's dad that was pretty harsh. Running back Quinton Martin Jr.'s dad, Quinton Martin Sr., said that Becht is just "not good" and that he has been in football long enough to not be making the decisions that he is. He went further to say that his son only got two touches in the loss.
While a lot of what he said wasn't all that incorrect, you simply cannot say it. I understand from a parent's perspective who is frustrated by several things that are going on with the team, but man, that simply cannot happen.
Monday night, he rescinded the post and posted an apology that was a whole lot of nothing in my opinion. The damage is already done and he put his son in a really tough position within the locker room.
All of that said, it has been a really tough month for Rocco Becht, and he is going through a very tough stretch.
His coach committed to staying with him and giving him the chance to continue to grow, but it has to get better quickly. The Nittany Lions cannot continue to roll him out and expect to keep the fanbase involved.
Becht knows what is going on; he is frustrated, he wants to be better, but it has to start happening and happening quickly.
The leash is going to get shorter and they need to start winning footballgames, no matter who is behind center.
