Matt Campbell's 2027 recruiting class continues to gain steam and momentum, as the Nittany Lions continue to add top-level talent.
Penn State officially landed a hard commitment from three-star running back Chukwuma Odoh, a running back from Paramus Catholic in New Jersey. Odoh chose Penn State over Auburn, Boston College, Duke, and Kentucky, according to 247 Sports.
Odoh rushed for over 1400 yards and 18 touchdowns in his junior season at Paramus Catholic. He stands at a powerful 6'0" and tips the scale at 220 pounds. He is not a burner running back, but rather a physical runner who delivers a hit at the point of contact.
He is the latest to join a recruiting class that could be program-changing for Matt Campbell and the Penn State Nittany Lions.
No one really knew what Campbell was going to be able to bring to the table from a recruiting perspective. Campbell did more than his best at Iowa State to make Ames, Iowa, a destination for some of the top prospects in the country to consider and commit to.
However, he was fishing in a pool that was very dissimilar to where he is now. Although he grew up in northeast Ohio, went to college there, then got his first head coaching job at Toledo, this pool of athletes and these high schools are all new to him.
How did he establish himself? Well, he leaned on the expertise of long-time coach Terry Smith and then pounded the pavement.
The result, well, Penn State currently has the No. 8-ranked recruiting class for the 2027 class. They are a couple of spots behind teams such as Oregon, Florida, and Notre Dame, while they are ahead of Ohio State, Miami, and Texas Tech.
They definitely aren't the highest bidder, and they don't have the best recent history. This is truly Matt Campbell and his staff spreading the good word about the culture that he is trying to build, and these recruits are buying in.
It is truly impressive what he has been able to do, but the fall is an absolute turning point. Once the ball is kicked off, he is either going to pour gasoline on the fire, or it is going to be extinguished, and his class will be ripped apart.
Winning will multiply his recruiting efforts, but losing may pull the rug out from under him.
Campbell has put in solid work to this point in the recruiting process; they have gotten it to a really good spot, and it is only going to get better throughout the offseason.
