Wednesday was a mixed bag for Penn State as they got two very different pieces of news for two of their most critical recruits.
It was an up-and-down day for the Penn State Nittany Lions on the recruiting trail on Wednesday. Two of their top recruiting prospects made major waves that involved two of Penn State's biggest rivals.
We will start with the bad news first.
The top prospect in the 2028 recruiting class, Jett Harrison, wasted almost literally no time making his college decision. Just a couple of weeks after the 2028 class opened for recruiting, Harrison is already off the board.
It was always going to be a major challenge for Penn State to flip Harrison from his love of Ohio State, but unfortunately for them, they were never really given the chance.
Now, the silver lining in this situation is that a commitment in this day and age is hardly binding. Kids are now able to change their minds with no consequence, and there is at least a possibility that Harrison could do that. I wouldn't bet even a cent of US currency on that because that is not the character of that family, but never say never.
Now, the good news.
One of Penn State's quarterback prospects in the 2028 class, who just recently committed to Notre Dame, is back on the open market.
It was announced on Wednesday that four-star prospect Trey Tagliaferri decommitted from Notre Dame in what some are calling "one of the most stunning decommitments" in a very long time at Notre Dame.
Not many are going to feel bad for the Fighting Irish, and for the Nittany Lions, they are absolutely back in the race. However, there does seem to be something very fishy about the decommitment, and whoever is at the bottom of it has deep pockets.
Maybe it is the Nittany Lions, maybe it is someone else.
As his recruiting opened back up, On3 and Rivals have the RPM Top 2 teams as the Oklahoma Sooners and Penn State. It is heavily weighted towards the Sooners right now, but that doesn't mean anything right now. The recruitment is back open, and the Nittany Lions are back in the mix.
Penn State is in the right conversations with the guys that they are recruiting and the competition that they have. They are absolutely going big-game hunting with each and every recruit at every position, and while they will have a lot of misses, the hits will be massive when they do come.
