Penn State tried its best to keep the top 2028 recruiting target in-state, but it is looking like they are losing the battle, for now.
Jett Harrison is the most coveted player in the 2028 recruiting class for good reason. As a rising junior, Harrison is already rated the top recruit in the country, and while he is an impressive wide receiver already, he has so much room to grow.
According to Rivals, Harrison is a five-star recruit with a 96.46 rating and is the No. 1 player available.
Unfortunately for Penn State, it is looking like it is nearly a lock that Harrison will follow in his brother's footsteps to rival Ohio State.
Again, according to Rivals, Harrison is 99 percent to Ohio State and zero percent to his second school, Penn State.
Harrison stands at just 6'1 and weighs only 175 pounds at this point. If genes tell us anything at all, he has at least two inches left to grow and about 50 pounds left to gain to match what his older brother Marvin Jr. was at Ohio State.
Still, with a lot of maturing left to do, Harrison brings to the table exactly what Marvin did as a Buckeye. He has a huge catch radius and routinely makes crazy catches in traffic and over defenders.
At a young age, he is already a very good route runner and wins not because he is the best athlete, but because he is a very technical player. As a Sophomore, he had 15 touchdown catches and is looking to improve upon it next season.

Although Jett is heavily predicted to go to Ohio State, there is still a lot of time to win the recruiting battle for him, and a lot of that work is going to be done in the fall.
For Penn State, they have an opportunity when the season begins to prove that all of the hype around them is legitimate and not fake. The lasting taste that everyone has in their mouth from the program between the white lines is how bad they were last year.
Although Matt Campbell has come in and changed the trajectory of the program, they still have to prove it on the field, simple as that.
If they come out in 2026 and get off to a slow start, they lose all of the momentum that they have built. If they go out and start winning games, they will pour gasoline on the fire and start having a legitimate chance at top recruits like Harrison.
For now, they have to just stay in the conversation with him. For the future, they need to win football games, and if they do both of those things, maybe they will have a chance to keep Harrison in-state.
